President
Antonio Sassano has been the President of the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni since 10 August 2017.
From 2007 to 2008, he served as an Executive Director of the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni.
Born in Rome, Italy on 12 March 1953, he was awarded a degree cum laude in Engineering at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome in 1976. He is currently a Full Professor of Operations Research at the Faculty of Engineering of the “La Sapienza” University of Rome.
His scientific and professional activity has been focused on two complementary areas: the study of the mathematical structure of hard optimisation problems and the use of this knowledge to model and solve challenging “real-life problems”. His research work has mainly been devoted to the study of the polyhedral structure of combinatorial problems and the design and testing of optimisation algorithms.
His experience in consultancy includes designing the Italian Frequency Plan for Terrestrial Analogue Television in 1998, the study of the Frequency Plan for FM-Radio, the design of the DAB Frequency Plan in 2002 and the 3-SFN DVB-T Frequency Plan in 2003 and, more recently, the SFN DVB_T Frequency Plan in 2010. He served as one of the advisors to the Italian Government in the procedures to auction UMTS licences (2001) and WLL licences (2002).
He was President of CIRO (Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerca Operativa) and Editor of “Mathematical Programming”. He served as a Board Member of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and a consultant of the Italian Authority for Telecommunications. He is a Member of Advisory Board of the Florence School of Regulation (European University Institute).
