He is currently head of the Data Analytics area at FUB. After graduating (summa cum laude) in Electronic Engineering at the University of Rome in 1984, he joined FUB in 1986. He was Visiting Associate at the George Mason University and at the University of Aberdeen.
He is the author or co-author of about 80 papers in the areas of information retrieval and artificial intelligence including the book “Concept Data Analysis: Theory and Applications”, with about 4400 Google Scholar citations overall.
He won the ECIR 2013 Best Paper Award and one of his articles was included in the ACM Best of 2012 items published in computing. He was Co-Chair of ECIR 2007 and has been or is a regular Program Committee Member of leading conferences (ICML, WSDM, SIGIR, CIKM, WI, ECIR, ICTIR, FCA).
Over the years, he has been in charge of several research groups in FUB and managed a number of projects involving data analysis for a range of applications, including geo-marketing support, vertical search engines, copyright protection, web and data privacy, online anti-counterfeiting and transparency in e-procurement.
