The Cloud and Data Area of the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni is committed to analyzing cutting-edge solutions for managing digital infrastructure and data, promoting technological autonomy and supporting the country’s digital transformation. With a focus on cloud-edge continuum, digital sovereignty and data governance, the Area fosters the creation of an advanced, resilient and integrated ecosystem, capable of optimizing networks and services, as well as addressing the challenges of strategic sectors such as smart cities, advanced industry and digital healthcare.
The cloud-edge continuum is a key focus of the Area, aiming to integrate centralized and distributed infrastructures to improve efficiency, flexibility and scalability in the use of computational resource. The goal is to support the development of new applications and services that meet complex needs, ensuring business continuity and innovation.
Another priority field is the promotion of digital sovereignty, with a strong emphasis on strengthening national and European cloud infrastructures. The Area provides technical and strategic support to the Public Administration in the migration to the Polo Strategico Nazionale (PSN), ensuring regulatory compliance, protection of information assets and optimization of resources. At the same time, collaborations with institutions and stakeholders are supported to develop policies that safeguard technological autonomy and the protection of sensitive data.
In the field of data governance, the Area promotes the use of data as a strategic resource for economic and social development. Through advanced analytical methodologies and the use of artificial intelligence, solutions are proposed to enhance public information assets, develop a data economy and improve decision-making quality. The adoption of digital twins – virtual models that simulate the behavior of real systems by integrating data and AI – also enables the optimization of complex processes in key sectors such as energy, transportation and healthcare.
The Area consists of three main functions:
- European and National Cloud – studies strategies for sovereign cloud infrastructures and supports the transition of public administration to the Polo Strategico Nazionale, collaborating with institutions and universities to promote technological autonomy and security.
- Cloud-Edge Continuum – leads the creation of integrated computational ecosystems, combining centralized and distributed infrastructures to meet the demands of new services and applications.
- Data Governance & AI – develops advanced data analysis and management solutions, fostering the integration of artificial intelligence and data to optimize decisions, processes and resources.
The Cloud and Data Area serves as a reference point for digital innovation, contributing to the creation of a secure, interoperable and competitive digital future. Through synergy with other FUB thematic areas, it promotes a holistic and coordinated approach to the challenges of digital transformation.
